WELCOME TO FI.UNDERDOG
I’m Nikki!
This is my little slice of the internet where you can dive into my life experiences and follow my journey of becoming debt free, because in 2020, I decided it was finally time. Well, time to be consumer debt free…hi Sallie Mae. I’m a firm believer in the saying “it takes a village”, so when I started learning more about personal finance, I became the financial coach to all my younger cousins, nieces and nephews, paid off more than $25,000+ in two years, on a $55,000 income, and now I am ready to
grow my village–that’s where you come in. Thank you for reading along!
I grew up with my nose in books; I loved reading, but I also longed to be a writer. You’ll of course read about my perspectives on personal finance, but I also write about books, cooking and food, and every random rabbit hole I tend to go down. Raised in New England, which means Gilmores Girls (and Greys Anatomy) are my comfort shows, and being the youngest sibling, I of course love to offer unsolicited life advice in all aspects. The key is to do what I say, not what I do. I spent most of my 20s and beyond doing things wrong, but the good news is now I can show my Niblings and anyone else interested, what they should do right.
Cooking and trying new restaurants excite me; I especially love finding new recipes from other bloggers and putting them to the test. Experimenting with both of my cultures in the kitchen is a plus; I am Dominican and African American. Spending time with family, my personal village, is what started all of this, so here you are new Village members! With my tips, no member will be left behind.
Consider yourself a part of the Underdog Village! I hope to be the Financial Aunty you never had. Use this slice of the internet as a guide on what NOT to do with your wallet. Learn from my mistakes from personal finance to kitchen mishaps. I can’t say NO to Twizzlers, gummy bears, nor tea–my favorite is Ginger Tea. I am also terrible at keeping secrets.
XOXO
